President asks local leaders to work together for development

President M Abdul Hamid has called upon the people’s representatives, government employees and local elites to work together to reach the benefits of development at people’s doorsteps.

He said this last night while exchanging views with local dignitaries at Rastropoti Abdul Hamid Auditorium  at Mithamin Upazila here.

President Hamid called upon all to be aware of the law and order, drug abuse and environment in the Haor area.

He directed to intensify the activities of the law enforcement agencies and role of prominent citizens of the area to prevent drug abuse and child marriage.

The President addressed the people’s representatives especially the Union Parishad (UP) Chairman and UP members  saying, “Never do injustice in the name of arbitration .  . Do the work so that the  people can trust you.”

Regarding the ongoing activities of various development projects in the area and new ones (project), he said the public interest should be given priority for adopting and implementing development projects.

“The development of the Haor area is different and more complicated than other regions of the country . So we need huge development and it is not possible to meet all the demands though  we want” he added.

The President said the haor area has made significant progress in development at various sectors including infrastructure and education.

Abdul Hamid, however,  assured the locals of taking steps to meet the development needs on priority basis considering the public interest of the region.

Shahjahan Mia, Professor Dr Sohail Reza Chowdhury, Upazila AL General Secretary Sameer Kumar Baishnav, Organizing Secretary Matiur Rahman, Publicity Secretary Mohammad Moinuddin and Mithamin Union Chairman Sharif Kamal, among others, took part in the view exchange .
