Early cosmos view: Bangladesh’s Lamiya among scientists in JWST

The news of the revelation of the deepest ever view of early cosmos has created a hype in Bangladesh as scientist Lamiya Ashraf Mowla, the daughter of Dhaka, has worked in the Webb project.

The James Webb Space Telescope, the most powerful to be placed in orbit, has revealed the clearest image to date of the early universe, going back 13 billion years, US space agency NASA said Monday (Jul 11).

Nasa along with its international partners, the European and Canadian space agencies, has worked on this project. And among the team members, Lamiya has participated as a Canadian scientist.

Lamiya has completed her A-level in Bangladesh. Then she did her undergraduation from Wellesley College in the USA.

She joined the researcher team of Professor Peter Van Docam and Professor Roberto Abraham of Canada’s University of Canada in 2015. The professors have developed a telescope named Dragonfly, which can detect even less shining objects in space.

Webb project has over 1200 skilled scientists, engineers and technicians from 14 countries (and more than 27 US states) building it. (It is a joint NASA/ESA/CSA mission.) Assembly and testing of the mirror and instruments occurred at NASA Goddard.
