Information secretary focuses on ‘new media’

The news publishers have to focus on internet-based ‘new media’ to disseminate public-oriented development activities of government more faster way, Information Secretary Kamrun Nahar said.

New media is used to describe content made available using different forms of electronic communication made possible through the use of computer technology.

Addressing a meeting with public relation officers of all ministries at Secretariat on Thursday, information secretary also mentioned government has planned to introduce ‘audio visual section’ for public oriented news management at department of information.

Chaired by chief information officer Surath Kumar Sarkar, additional CIO Shahenur Miah and senior deputy chief information officer Muhammad Saifullah spoke in the meeting.

Kamrun Nahar said every ministry will get a ‘public relation cell’ to empower the public relations officers of different ministry,

Directing PROs to use digital tools in information management,Information Secretary Kamrun Nahar mentioned that there is no alternative to use the digital platforms to manage information on traditional news outlets and social media as we are experiencing Digital Bangladesh.

“The information management will not means sending press release or handout only but also executing operations in 360 degree,” she said.

Kamrun Nahar directed the PROs to enrich themselves through sharing knowledge on development of modern tools of information management.

CIO Surath Kumar informed that the government will train the public relation officers in ‘citizen journalism’ to coop with the transformation of media.
