Stocks extend slump

Country’s both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) on Monday closed trading in slump amid the growing fear of coronavirus spread.

At DSE, the broad index, DSEX settled at 4817.70 points with a loss of 23.27 points or 0.48 percent. Besides, the two selective indices, Blue Chip index, DSE30 and Shariah index, DSES also went down by 15.43 points and 13.01 points to settle at 1,669.88 points and 1,107.69 points respectively.

Market turnover, another crucial indicator, stood at Taka 6,212.85 million which is higher than of previous day’s Taka 4,955.39 million. Losers took a lead over gainers as out of 344 issues traded, 124securities gained price while 134 declined and 86 remained unchanged.

The top gainers were National Insurance, EIL, Provati Insurance, Phenix Insurance and KARNAPHULI. Beximco Pharma topped the turnover chart followed by Square Pharma,Eastern Insurance, Nitol Insurance and Asia Insurance.

The top losers were KTL, Golden Son, Square Pharma, Envoy Textile and Delta Spinning. On the other hand, port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed trading at red extending the losing streak of previous day.

CSCX and CASPI declined by 33.04 points and 56.75 points to stand at8,317.36 points and 13,807.09 points respectively. At CSE, a total of 6,100001 shares and mutual funds of 234 companies were traded, of which 77 issues advanced while 99 declined and 58 issues remained unchanged.
