People’s Engineering Day today

The 52nd founding anniversary of Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB) and the People’s Engineering Day-2022 will be celebrated today.

In separate messages, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina extended greetings and congratulations to all members of IDEB and all other concerned on the eve of the day.

In his message, President Hamid said this year’s theme of the day “Renewable Energy in Sustainable Development” a perfect one on current perspective.

He said fossil fuels are being used massively as a driving force of economy across the world in various fields including power generation, transport, industries and factories.

Availability of fossil fuels is decreasing against the increasing demand of fuel in the current world and its adverse impact on environment is matter of deep concern now, he mentioned.

“I think it is very essential to explore new potential sustainable energy and take programme to save energy and increase the use of renewable energy after decreasing the dependency on fossil fuels to ensure energy security for national prosperity and sustainable development,” President Hamid said.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the Greatest Bangalee of All Times Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had formed Bangladesh Power Development Board in 1972 and took measures to reach electricity across the country including villages giving highest priority on power, energy and mineral resources sector for socioeconomic and infrastructural development of newly independent, war-ravaged country.

In 1975, Bangabandhu had taken an epoch making step in reserving, supplying and transmitting fuel oil by nationalizing the ESSO Eastern Inc. of the USA located in Bangladesh and purchasing five gas fields Titas, Habiganj, Rashidpur, Kailashtila and Bakhrabad gas fields from the then British Oil Company ‘Shell Oil’ for the state, she mentioned.

The premier said following the footprints of Bangabandhu, the Awami League government has been implementing various initiatives putting maximum priority on power and energy sector as one of the prime factors for economic prosperity to achieve ‘Vision 2041’.

Both the President and the Prime Minister wished a success of all the programmes of the People’s Engineering Day-2022.
