5 killed in truck-auto rickshaw collision in Comilla

Five people have been killed after a truck hit a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in Comilla.

The accident took place at 6 am. on Friday (February 18) in the Tutbagan area of Comilla-Brahmanbaria regional highway in Burichang upazila of the district.

The deceased have been identified as CNG-powered autorickshaw driver Julhas Mia (60), and its passengers Zahirul Islam (35), Md. Jalal (37), Saiful (35) and Alamgir (34). Two others injured in the incident are undergoing treatements at a hospital.

Mainamati Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Belal Uddin Jahangir said the truck and auto-rickshaw were heading towards Comilla. Five people died on the spot after the speeding truck hit the auto-rickshaw. The deceased are all men. The bodies have been kept at the police station. The drum truck has been seized.

Meanwhile, a fire broke out in a passenger bus on its way from Dhaka to Bhairab in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj. However, no casualties were reported. The incident took place at 11:30 pm on Thursday (February 17) in Dhuptara Bunti area of the upazila. The bus driver, helpers and passengers left the bus quickly as soon as the fire broke out.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Araihazar Police Station Anichur Rahman Mollah said that after receiving the news, the police and fire service had rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control. Initially, it is beleived that the engine of the moving bus caught fire. No casualties were reported.
