Election is held under EC, not government – Information Minister

Information Minister and Awami League joint secretary. Hasan Mahmud said that “the BNP had held a ‘series meeting’ and said that they would not go to any election under the Awami League government. But elections are not held under any government, elections are held under the Election Commission”.

By mentioning that “There is no point in dreaming of a caretaker government,” the minister said, there will be no caretaker government in the country with those who talk on the television screen after 12 midnight.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar on the occasion of the 29th death anniversary of former Member of Parliament Principal MM Nazrul Islam at Brajgopal Town Hall in Char Fashion Upazila of Bhola on Saturday afternoon. Abdullah Al Islam Jacob, Member of Parliament for Bhola-4 constituency addressed the meeting as a special guest under the chairmanship of Principal Kaiser Ahmed Dulal, Vice Chairman of Nazrul Islam Foundation.

After landing in Char Fashion at noon, Minister Hasan Mahmud paid his respect to Bangabandhu by placing a wreath at his portrait. On the occasion of Mujib’s centenary, he planted a memorial tree at Sheikh Rassel Children’s Park. The Information and Broadcasting Minister further said that when elections are held, the administration officials are not under the government, their responsibility goes to the Election Commission The Election Commission conducts elections independently. The government cannot transfer DC, SP, UNO then. All goes into the hands of the Election Commission.

Hasan Mahmud highlighted the development work of the government at that time and said that “ the face of every person in the country has changed today. People cannot be seen on bare feet and in torn clothes. The hut is not easy to find. This change is not due to any magic, this country has changed today under the magical leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. BNP leaders said, this government cannot build Padma Bridge. But Sheikh Hasina’s government has shown that it has built the Padma Bridge. I am looking forward to the day when BNP leaders will drive over the Padma Bridge”.

The Awami League joint general secretary added, “When we talked about digital Bangladesh in 2008, many people did not understand the meaning of it.” Now Digital Bangladesh is no longer a dream, it is a reality. Now money can be transacted at home, admission to university can be applied, the farmer gets the solution by sending pictures of the problem from the field. This is Digital Bangladesh”.

Earlier, the Information Minister exchanged views with local journalists at the residence of MP Jacob. Speaking as the chief guest at the meeting chaired by Bhola Press Club President M Habibur Rahman, the minister said “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government believes in the development of the entire country. The development of the nation and the state lies in the development of the whole country. That is why the government is working towards the goal of development in every part of the country”.

Later, Hasan visited different development works in the district.

Deputy Commissioner Md Towfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Police Super Sarker Md Kaiser, Upazila Parishad Chairman Jaynal Abedin Akhand and Pouroshava Mayor Mohammad Morshed, among others, accompanied the minister.
