Bangladesh welcomes US move

Biden supports Paris clime accord

Bangladesh has welcomed US President Joe Biden’s decision to re-join the 2015 Paris climate accord.

A more progressive environmental policy, like global warming, is likely to be followed by the new administration.

Bangladesh has also appreciated Biden’s commitment to put the US back on a track of net-zero emissions by 2050 and his call to revive the US as a global climate leader.

Former President Donald Trump declared on June 1, 2017 that his nation would leave the deal and re-enter only on conditions that were “fair to the US.”

Ministry of foreign affairs said in Dhaka on Thursday: “As the current president of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) and the Vulnerable Twenty Group (V20), Bangladesh plays a leading role in climate discourse and focuses on the urgent need to strengthen climate action and adaptation efforts by enhancing nationally determined contributions (NDCs).”

The US government also recognized that the agreement provided an unparalleled opportunity for climate action to prevent environmental warming and to develop global resilience upon re-entering the 2015 Paris climate accord, it added.
