Fbcci for keeping factories open

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (Fbcci) urged the government to keep the factories out of the purview of the restrictions during the post Eid-ul-Azha period to facilitate production activities.

It is important to keep the production process at factories running for the greater interest of the economy and people’s livelihoods, he said in a press release on Friday.

Jashim said that production activities would remain halted and the supply chain would be disrupted if the factories and industries were shut down during the movement restrictions. It will affect everyone, including consumers and producers, directly or indirectly, he said.

Consumers will suffer and prices of many essential products will go up if the supply of food, agriculture products and other daily essentials is disrupted due to production shortage, he added.

Low income people will mostly be affected, he said.

The FBCCI president also said that exporters would also not be able to supply export items as per order if the production activities at export-oriented industries remained closed. It will create risks of suspension of export orders, he apprehended.

Local exporters may not get export orders for late summer, Christmas and the upcoming winter if the factories remain closed for around 18 to 20 days due to the movement restrictions and Eid holidays, he said.

He also said that if the export schedule for one-month was disrupted, it would put a negative impact on the next six-month export schedule.
