Foreign Minister Abdul Momen has urged the new US government to legalise undocumented non-resident Bangladeshis (NRB) in the United States.
He made the request at a meeting with US Congresswoman Grace Meng (Democrat, New York) on Wednesday, according to a release of Foreign Ministry. During the meeting, they discussed ways and means for further improving political and economic ties between Bangladesh and the United States.
US Congresswoman Grace Meng represents a large number of Bangladeshi diaspora voters in New York, and has always been an active member of Bangladesh caucus in US Congress.
Momen invited Congresswoman Meng to visit Bangladesh with a group of US lawmakers to see the remarkable socioeconomic progress achieved under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and also the situation of the displaced Rohingyas.
Appreciating Biden administration’s liberal approach to immigration, he called upon Congresswoman Meng to make efforts to legalise undocumented Bangladeshi diaspora in the US through taking up the matter with the new US government.
