BGMEA to set up innovation centre

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) will set up Centre for Innovation, Efficiency and Occupational Safety and Health.

Additional Commerce Secretary Md Hafizur Rahman on behalf of WTO Cell and Faruque Hassan, president of BGMEA, signed the MoU in presence of Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi and Senior Secretary Jafar Uddin on Monday.

The purpose of setting up this innovation centre is to drive future innovation of the RMG industry, and establish skills and OSH, the BGMEA said in a press release.

The centre will also work to increase the knowledge and skills of future RMG industry leaders.

It will provide vocational training and job training to graduates of industrial and production planning engineering and textile engineering.

Moreover, the capabilities of the industry will be enhanced through the use of technologies such as 3D designing and virtual prototyping which will ensure the proper utilization of time and money, the press release adds.

The innovation centre will launch a pilot program under the strong supervision of a renowned fashion designer and create a brand story by transforming local traditions into high-quality fashions and creating a global appeal.

The initiative will help to increase the capacity of mid-level management as well as to build the workforce of the factory in relevant fields.

SM Mannan Kochi, BGMEA senior vice president; Shahidullah Azim, vice-president; Khandaker Rafiqul Islam; vice-president (finance); Miran Ali, vice-president; Md Nasir Uddin, vice-president; M Ahsanul Haque, director of BGMEA, and senior officials and department heads of the Ministry of Commerce were present at the MoU signing ceremony.
