BNP’s call of toppling govt. sounds hollow: Information Minister

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today heavily came down on BNP’s statements about forming the process of unity, saying the party is speaking about the unity process though it itself doesn’t maintain unity inside the party.

“The party (BNP) which has no unity among themselves, but they are talking about forming a unity process time and again and they call for unseating the government. BNP also formed national unity earlier, but it didn’t survive,” he told the triennial conference of Awami League Durgapur upazila unit of the district here. Report BSS

The minister said BNP fought among them when they organised rallies. In fact, they (BNP) became mad as the party is out of power for a long time, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

He said BNP tries to topple the government everyday from its Naya Paltan office. “But, no one responds. In fact, they are ringing their own farewell bells, not Awami League. They have gone mad as unprecedented development has taken place in every sector of the country in the last 13
years,” he added.

He said BNP leaders are now carrying out propaganda against the country and saying that the people are not happy. But, Bangladesh has moved up seven notches on the Index of the World Happiness Report of the United Nations despite the continuous propaganda of BNP, he added.

Once, the minister said, BNP said the government could not construct the Padma Bridge. But the government constructed the bridge with its own funds, he added.

Hasan said the government has done huge developments for the welfare of the country’s people and there is no room for public votes to others, accept Awami League. “We don’t want indecent behavior of any Awami League leaders and workers,” he added.

He said prices of some commodities have increased across the world. The government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken proper steps over the price hike issue and the prices are much lower than other countries, he added.

The minister said the premier has taken steps to give essentials with low prices to one crore families through family cards.

AL Rajshahi district unit president Anil Kumar Sarker inaugurated the conference with AL Durgapur unit president Nazrul Islam in the chair.

Former lawmaker and AL district unit general secretary Abdul Wadud Dara addressed the discussion as the key speaker.

AL central executive committee members Nurul Islam Thandu and
Begum Akthar Jahan, Prof Monsur Rahman, MP, Ayen Uddin, MP, Advocate Adiba Anjum Mita, MP, and local AL leaders, among others, spoke.

Later, the minister visited the proposed site of Tathya Complex at Kasiadanga area in the city.
