BNP criticizes whenever lockdown imposed or eased

Coming down heavily on BNP leaders comments over lockdown issue, Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud said it is not understandable what the party (BNP) really wants, as it criticizes the moment the lockdown is imposed or eased.

“The lockdown has been relaxed for a week just on the eve of the Holy Eid and it has been enforced after a lot of contemplation,” he said.

Hasan added: “BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir ruthlessly criticized the decision when the lockdown was announced for two weeks and presently, the party is condemning the decision as why it was eased. In fact, the question now arises what they want.”

The minister made the comments while addressing a function on Sunday marking the distribution of the cheques for second round of 2020-2021 fiscal among the journalists from Journalists Welfare Trust at the auditorium of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) in city’s Kakrail.

Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary, said, in fact, BNP wants to create chaos in the country, so that they can catch fish in troubled  waters. But, the countrymen would not give that  scope to them (BNP) in future, he added.

The minister said Bangladesh’s Prime Minister has set an example to provide assistance to journalists during pandemic and some countries has also taken some steps to follow the example. But there is no such example in neighbouring countries like India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, he added.

He said the Awami League government is for all people irrespective of all opinions. The welfare trust is open even for those journalists who criticize the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government in front of press club as the state is for all, he added.

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Murad Hasan and Information and Broadcasting Secretary Md Mokbul Hossain addressed the function as special guests with trust managing director Zafar Wazed in the chair.

Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Molla Jalal, acting secretary general Abdul Majid, Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) president Kuddus Affrad and general secretary Sajjad Alam Khan Tapu, among others, addressed the function.
