Pori Moni’s drug case proceedings suspended in High Court

The High Court has stayed the proceedings of Pori Moni’s case under the Narcotics Control Act for three months. At the same time, the court issued a rule asking why the order to frame charges in the case under the Narcotics Control Act against her would not be quashed. A High Court bench of Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Selim passed the order on Tuesday (March 1).

Advocate Z I Khan Panna, Syeda Nasrin and Advocate Md. Shahinuzzaman appeared for Pori Moni in the court. Deputy Assistant Attorney General Md. Mizanur Rahman represented the state.

On January 30, actress Pori Moni filed a petition seeking dismissal of the case and order to frame charges under the Narcotics Control Act. Earlier on January 5, charges were framed against three people, including actress Pori Mani. Judge Mohammad Nazrul Islam of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-10 framed the charges. The court rejected the plea of ​​Pori Mani and three others to be released from the case. The other two accused are Ashraful Islam Dipu and Kabir Hossain.

On November 15 last year, the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court took cognizance of the chargesheet against three people, including actress Pori Moni, in a case filed under the Narcotics Act. The case was transferred to the special judge’s court after setting a date for formation of charges.

On August 4, RAB raided Pori Moni’s house in Banani of the capital. She was later arrested in a case under the Narcotics Control Act filed at Gulshan police station. On August 31, the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge granted interim bail to the actress until the investigation report of the case is submitted. On October 4, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) filed a chargesheet against the three, including Pori Moni, in the CMM court in Dhaka. After the chargesheet was filed, on October 10, she appeared in the CMM court in Dhaka and took bail again.
