BNP overestimates itself seeing only a few hundred people: Information Minister

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said BNP leaders, including its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam, are overestimating themselves seeing only a few hundred people in their rallies in different districts whereas these public meetings even could not draw a few thousand audience.

“In fact, Mirza Fakhrul and other BNP leaders are habituated to see only a few hundred people in front of their party office in city’s Naya Paltan. Now, we are witnessing that they (BNP) are foiling their own rallies by fighting among themselves in different districts. And the BNP leaders are overestimating themselves seeing a few hundred people in different rallies,” he said.

The people of Bangladesh are with the Awami League, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the government and they (BNP) can realise it in the elections, he added.

The minister said these, replying to a query of reporters, after addressing a meeting with the leaders of Television and Digital Programme Producers Association of Bangladesh (TELEPAB) at his Secretariat office here.

About the founding anniversary of Chhatra League, the minister said the organization was formed on 4th January in 1948. The role of Chhatra League in the movement of attaining independence, in freedom movements and in the Liberation War will be written in golden letters in the history, he said.

The minister said Chhatra League played a role in building the country after the independence at the call of Bangabandhu. “My expectation of the Chhatra League is that they would keep their role to reach the country to the destination dreamt by Bangabandhu. They should remain alert so that any intruder cannot enter into the organization and defame it,” said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.
