Awami League-BNP Clash In New York city

After the procession of the leaders and workers of the United States Awami League and BNP centered on the visit of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina to New York, there were massive clashes and chases  happened in Jackson Heights on Saturday evening local time.

Awami League leaders and activists have claimed that some BNP leaders and activists marched in the Diversity Plaza area and chanted slogans in the name of ‘Father of the Nation’ Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Meanwhile, leaders and activists of the United States BNP’s Independence Golden Jubilee Committee marched out after a press conference at a Jackson Heights restaurant on Saturday evening. BNP leaders and activists have alleged that Juba League leaders and activists attacked the back of their procession at the corner of 73rd Street and 37th Avenue. Besides, BNP leader Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan Milton alleged that the banners and posters of Zia-Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman were torn down by the Awami League leaders and activists.

Witnesses said there were chases, counter-chases and clashes between Awami League and BNP leaders and activists. After the New York police came to control the situation, no one was arrested. Party sources claimed that three BNP workers and one Awami League worker were injured in the incident. Leaders and activists of the Awami League and the BNP started chanting slogans in front of the New York police. At this time, the President of the United States Awami League. Siddiqur Rahman stood on a car and called on everyone to remain calm, saying that if anyone spoke disrespectfully to the Prime Minister, he would not be released.

The clashes lasted for about an hour and slogans were exchanged. During this time a frightening situation arose in the Jackson Heights area and local and foreign pedestrians panicked.

Earlier, the US Awami League held an immediate protest meeting at Diversity Plaza to prevent the BNP-Jamaat conspiracy and the BNP-Jamaat slogans against Bangabandhu and the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina will arrive in New York on Sunday evening to attend the 76th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).  Leaders and activists of Awami League and its affiliates have organized a reception at JFK International Airport and leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliates have organized a protest rally.

The Prime Minister will address the 76th General Assembly of the United Nations.
