Journalists protest across the country on Thursday

Protesting against the bank account demand of 11 leaders of the top journalists’ organizations, the journalist leaders said that the movement of journalists will continue till the incident is resolved satisfactorily. Following this, journalists will hold demonstrations all over the country, including Dhaka, on Thursday (September 23) at 11 am.

Mollah Jalal, president of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), announced the program at a protest rally at the National Press Club on Sunday.

Leaders of various organizations of journalists from the rally strongly condemned the incident of asking for bank accounts of 11 leaders. They say, the state can ask for a bank account of any citizen. But the way the information was sought by targeting the organization here, is part of a deeper conspiracy. For this they want to withdraw it. At the same time, they demanded to disclose what information was found.

The National Press Club, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists, Dhaka Union of Journalists and Dhaka Reporters Unity organized today’s rally.

Farida Yasmin, president of the National Press Club, said at the rally, “The home minister does not know about asking for a bank account, the information minister does not know.” Then where do we go. There is a deep conspiracy going on here. The journalists are being confronted with the government.

Senior journalist Riaz Uddin Ahmed said it was done to weaken the organization.

Former President of National Press Club Shawkat Mahmud, Joint Secretary of Prothom Alo Sohrab Hasan, General Secretary of National Press Club Ilias Khan, Acting Secretary General of BFUJ Abdul Majid, President of other part of BFUJ M Abdullah and Secretary General Nurul Amin, DUJ president Kader Gani Chowdhury and general secretary. Shahidul Islam, Abu Zafar Surya, former president of DUJ, Rafiqul Islam, president of the editorial forum, Mainul Alam, joint secretary of the National Press Club and Shahed Chowdhury, treasurer, Morsalin Nomani, president of DRU, Moshiur Rahman Khan, general secretary, Former general secretary of DRU Shukkar Ali, joint secretary of DUJ Khairul Alam, former president of CRAB Abul Khair, current president Mizan Malik, president of Economic Reporters Forum Sharmin Rinvi and others also addressed the rally.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, the leaders of the journalists said that they thought that the bank accounts of the leaders had been summoned as a tactic to intimidate the journalists. Today’s protest rally was announced from that press conference.

A few days ago, the bank accounts of 11 journalists leaders of the four organizations, including the president and secretary of the National Press Club, were summoned. According to media reports, BFIU of Bangladesh Bank has given a letter to the banks in this regard in response to the demand of a government agency. The 11 journalist leaders on the list are Farida Yasmin, president of the National Press Club (Awami League-backed), Ilias Khan, general secretary (BNP-backed), Dhaka Journalists Union (DUJ) President (BNP-backed) Quader Gani Chowdhury and General Secretary. Shahidul Islam, General Secretary (Awami League-backed) of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Sajjad Alam Khan, President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) (BNP-backed) M Abdullah and Secretary General Nurul Amin, Mollah Jalal, president of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) (Awami League-backed) and acting secretary general Abdul Majid, Morsalin Nomani, president of the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) and Moshiur Rahman Khan, general secretary.
