No journalist will be unnecessarily harassed: Information Minister

The Minister of Information and Broadcasting Dr. Hasan Mahmud said, No journalist will be unnecessarily harassed.

BSS managing director Abul Kalam Azad, Chairman of DBC24 channel Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, former BFUJ president Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, former secretary general Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan and Omar Faruk, DUJ president Kuddus Afrad and and general secretary  Sajjad Alam Khan Topu met the information minister at his office in the secretariat on Tuesday afternoon.

At the end of the meeting when present journalists wanted to know about it, Dr Hasan said, “The journalist’s leaders came to discuss regarding the issued letter from the Bangladesh Bank asking for the bank account details of the leaders of the journalists’ organization.” Discussed in a very amicable environment. The government can ask for an account of anyone, but why it was asked in the name of the organization, this is the reason for their concern. I told them that as an information minister, I would look into the matter so that no one would admit to harassing them unnecessarily. ”

“As well as asking for this account details, I have also requested them to keep an eye on this matter so that there is no misunderstanding arise between the journalist’s and the government ,” the information minister said.

Dr. Hasan Mahmud said, ‘ Daughter of Bangabandhu  Sheikh Hasina is a journalist-friendly Prime Minister. She has done a lot for the welfare of the journalists. She established the Journalist Welfare Trust, provided grants for the construction of the National Press Club building, provided one-time assistance to journalists during the Covid period, and donated Tk 10 crore to the Journalist Welfare Trust. The Prime Minister is always careful and regularly inquires so that the journalists do not face any difficulty for any reason.

I urge everyone to be vigilant so that no one can distance journalists from the government. ‘
