Bangladesh go down 5-0 to Iran

As presumed earlier Bangladesh national women’s football team suffered a big margin of 0-5 goal defeat to strong Iran in their second and last group G match of AFC Asian Cup India 2022 qualifiers held today (Wednesday) at Bunyodkor Stadium in Uzbekistan.

The first half of the match between the Iranian National Women’s Football team and Bangladesh ended 3-0 for the Iranian side, while the Bangladeshi team received 2 more goals in the second half.

Earlier, Bangladesh suffered the same identical margin of a 0-5 goal defeat against upper ranked Jordan in their group opening match.  Team Bangladesh left the qualifying round after conceding 10 goals in two matches.

Iran ranks 72nd in the FIFA girls rankings. Bangladesh ranks 137th. After all, Iranian girls were ahead in terms of ranking, physical height and skill.

Iran began to dominate over Bangladesh in the beginning of the match and took 3-0 lead at the breather.

Iranian captain Behnaz Taherkhani scored twice from the penalty spot, with Melika Motevalli, Golnoosh Khosravi and Hajar Dabbaghi also finding the back of the net to eliminate a Bangladesh side which had lost their first match 5-0 against Jordan on Sunday.

The 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup will be held in India from Jan. 20 to Feb. 6.

A total of twelve teams will qualify to play in the final tournament in India. The host country India and the top three teams of the previous tournament in 2018 will qualify automatically, while the other eight teams will be decided by qualification.

This tournament will also serve as the first stage of Asian qualification for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where five teams from the Women’s Asian Cup qualify directly for the World Cup (plus co-hosts Australia), and two teams qualify for a 10-team playoff tournament.
