Badhon nominated for Best actress in Asia Pacific Screen Awards

Dhallywood Popular Actress and model Ajmeri Haque Badhon has been nominated for Best Actress at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) in Australia. The actress became the first Bangladeshi to get a place in this event.

The award authorities have released the list of nominees for this year’s event on Wednesday (October 13). It is learned that Badhon has been nominated for her performance in the movie ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ directed by Abdullah Mohammad Saad.

Alena YIV for “Asia”, Valentina Romanova Chyskyyray, for Scarecrow, Leah Purcell, for “The Drover’s Wife the Legend of Molly Johnson” and Essie Davis, for “The Justice of Bunny King”, has also been nominated in the ‘Best actress’ category alongside Badhon.

Winners of each category will be declared on 11 November at the 14th ASPA Ceremony on Australia’s Gold Coast. The programme will be streamed across the globe.

Azmeri Haque Badhon, who stepped into the limelight after winning 2nd runner up prize in Lux Channel I Superstar in 2006, reached the peak of popularity after portraying the lead in ‘Rehana Maryam Noor.’

Badhon shared her thoughts regarding this achievement  “It is definitely a proud moment for all of us who are associated with ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’,” she says.

“I will give credit for this achievement to my director Abdullah Mohammad Saad, for believing in me and representing me as Rehana.” The actress shared that her experience of working with Saad was one of a kind.

“Being a patient of chronic depression for a long time, I often have emotional breakdowns. Even I have days where I just lie in bed for hours. So, it is really challenging to deal with someone like me,” adds Badhon.

Among the 25 Asia Pacific countries represented in the nominations are Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Japan, Lebanon, New Zealand, Qatar, South Korea, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Turkey and, for the first time, Vietnam.

APSA celebrates cinema from over 70 countries, with an enhanced focus on content that reflects the region’s diversity.

The film titled ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ made new history for Bangladesh. This is the first Bangladeshi feature film to feature in the “Un Certain Regard” section of the 74th Cannes Film Festival. Immediately after the screening of the movie, everyone stood up and gave a standing ovation.

‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ is also taking part in the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival (HKAFF). Seven more films will compete with ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ in the ‘New Talent Award’ category of the festival. Besides, there will be two screenings of the movie on November 6 and 13.

Before ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’, Busan and BFI were nominated at the London Film Festival. Bandhan has played the role of ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ in the film.

The story of the film ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ revolves around a teacher in a private medical college. Where Rehana lives a complex life as a mother, daughter, sister and teacher. One evening, while leaving the college, Rehana witnessed an unexpected incident. Along with Badhon, Afia Hahin Jaima, Afia tabassum Borno, Kazi Sami Hossain, Yasir Al Haq, Saberi Alam, Abrodit Chowhdury and others are also in different roles in the 1 hour and 47 minutes long film.

Recently, the film has received clearance for commercial screening without any objection from the Bangladesh Film Censor Board. Preparations are underway for the release in the domestic theaters. Ehsanul Haque Babu, the executive producer of the movie, said that if all goes well, the viewers will be able to watch the movie in the theaters of the country in the last week of October.
