Mahanabami of Durga Puja today, farewell tune in the mandap

Today is the main religious festival of Durga puja for the followers of traditional religions. On this day, the shadow of sadness will fall in the minds of the devotees of the goddess. Because in the Hindu religion, Goddess Durga will return to Kailash one day later. The idol will be abandoned on the tenth day, devotees will bid farewell to Goddess Durga with teary eyes.

On Thursday (October 14), the ceremony will start at 9:57 am with Kalparambha and Vihit Puja. At the end of the puja, the devotees will offer offerings at the feet of the goddess. This time the formality of Durgotsab started with the invitation of the Goddess on the sixth day of October 11. The goddess came on horseback and will leave tomorrow, Friday (October 15), on the tenth day, sitting on a cradle.

Maha Navami is the ninth day of the Durga Puja festival. It is the final day of worship before Vijaya Dashami, the end of Navratri.

As per the Hindu Calendar, Mahanavami t has special significance in Shardiya Navratri. On the day of Mahanavami, mother Durga’s form of mother Siddhidatri is worshipped. This year the Mahanavami fast of Sharadiya Navratri will be observed toay i.e. 14th October 2021 on Thursday. Mother Siddhidatri is worshipped with complete rituals by fasting on the day of Mahanavami of Navratri. According to Hindu mythology, it was on this day that Goddess Durga killed Mahishasura, the king of the demons, and liberated the deities from his terror. She is also known as Mahishasuramardini or the destroyer of Mahishasura.

Navami days are considered to be the best in all the days of Navratri as per religious texts. It is believed that the worship performed on Mahanavami is as fruitful as the puja performed in all the other 8 days of Navratri. Wear clean clothes after morning bath etc. to worship Mother Siddhidatri on Navami day. Then, at the place of Kalash (pot), install a statue of Mother Siddhidatri and offer them pink flowers. Then light incense sticks, lamps, and worship them. Now chant the ‘beej mantra’ of Mother Siddhidatri. Then perform aarti and conclude the puja.

This day is considered as the last day of Durga Puja. Because the next day is just an episode of abandonment. The night of the festival ends on the night of the ninth. On the ninth night, therefore, the farewell bell rings in the mandap to mandap.
