Shakib’s Kolkata into IPL final in the last minute thrill

Kolkata Knight Riders have reached the final of the 14th edition of IPL. They beat Delhi Capitals by 3 wickets in the second qualifier at the Sharjah Stadium on Wednesday (October 13th). Their opponent in the final next Friday (October 15) is Chennai Super Kings.

Knockout matches probably say that. Otherwise, where everyone could easily see Kolkata’s victory, the team’s supporters were scared of losing at the very last moment. Luckily, Rahul Tripati is still at the crease. He hit a six off the fifth ball of the 20th over to take Kolkata to the final.

Chasing the target of 136 runs, KKR openers Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill gave a 96-run opening stand. Iyer got to his third fifty of the season while Gill ended up getting 46 runs in the knockout game to guide their team to a comfortable position in the chase.

DC bounced back towards the end with back-to-back wickets and economical bowling. KKR needed 7 runs in the final over where Ravichandran Ashwin bowled first four balls brilliantly and got two wickets but Rahul Tripathi sealed the show with his winning six on the fifth ball against the off-spinner.

Earlier while bowling first, Varun Chakaravarthy performed with the ball yet again with his two wickets and kept DC batsmen quiet. KKR will face Chennai Super Kings in the finals on Friday to fight for their third IPL trophy. While Delhi Capitals’ quest for their maiden IPL trophy is still on even after a brilliant season under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant. KKR had never lost an IPL final, they reached there two times before (2012, 2014) and emerged as winners both times.
