Former army chief’s son among the injured

Two youths were killed and a few others injured in a pre-dawn car crash at Mohakhali in Dhaka on Tuesday, the police said.

The accident took place in front of the Retired Armed Forces Officers Welfare Association (Raowa) Club in the early hours, Kafrul police station OC Hafizur Rahman told reporters.

The deceased were identified as Omar Ayman, 20, son of Col (retd) Omar Faruk, and Fahmid Ahmad Raihan, 20, son of Illias Ahmed, according to media reports. Ayman lived in Mohakhali DOHS and Fahmid at Nikunja.

Quoting sources, reports also said Ishraq Ahmed Sadin, son of former Bangladesh Army chief General Aziz Ahmed, was one of the two injured.

He was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) with critical injuries.

Citing Kafrul police, reports said all four youths were in the vehicle when it crashed into a pillar of the Mohakhali flyover in front of Raowa Club around 5:30pm. Ayman and Fahmid were killed on the spot.

Police said there were at least seven passengers in the car. The identities of the other passengers are yet to be known.

‘We are still investigating the accident,’ Police said.

The bodies of Ayman and Fahmid were kept at CMH, reports said.

Police headquarters officials said that many youths from wealthy families went out for night-time, high-speed driving on apparently empty roads, often causing accidents.
