UP polls are being held successfully: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda said on Wednesday that the ongoing Union Parishad (UP) elections are being held successfully all over the country.

“Overall, the elections are being held successfully with an average 74 percent voter turnout…No major violence took place during the UP elections except one or two sporadic incidents,” he said.

The CEC said this while addressing a special meeting on law and order at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the city’s Agargaon area.

He said that the law enforcement agencies will remain alert to prevent any untoward situation and violence in the upcoming polls.

Terming the polls as competitive and participatory, the CEC said more than 20 parties are participating in this year’s UP elections in two phases
