‘No votes using EMV in 150 seats if project not allowed’

Voters of 150 constituencies will not be able to excercise their franchise through electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the next parliamentary elections if the project to buying those is not given a go-ahead by January 15, said Election Commissioner Md Alamgir.

He was talking to reporters at his office in Dhaka on Wednesday.

“By mid-January, we have to place a supply order. If we dont get the EVMs, it will not be possible to bring those home, to check their quality and arrange training to operate them,” he said.

In that case, the commission will use the 150,000 EVMs it has in hand now.

“They can be used in up to 75 constituencies in the 12th general election,” Alamgir said.
