Forex reserve reaches $40b
The country’s foreign exchange reserve reached the new landmark of $40-billion on Thursday mainly due to a modest remittance inflow.
The volume of reserve reached $40.1 billion at the end of the day.
Bangladesh Bank officials mentioned steady flow of remittance behind the rise of foreign exchange as payments against import letters-of-credit were deferred, overall payments dropped.
In the July-September period of the current fiscal year 2020-2021, remittance inflow increased by 49 per cent or $2.19 billion even though the inflow slowed down a bit in August and September considering the $2.6-billion inflow in July.
Remittance inflow reached $6.71 billion during the July-September quarter of FY21 against $4.52 billion in the same period of FY20.
