Covid-19: Bangladesh logs 70 more deaths, 2,430 cases

Bangladesh reported 70 new coronavirus-related deaths and 2,430 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Sunday.

During this period, the positivity rate dropped further to 9.66 per cent from Saturday’s 9.82 per cent.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,14,456 and the total fatalities at 26,563, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

It was said in a press release signed by professor Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 25,163 samples at 797 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 90,64,015 samples.

Meanwhile, 5,060 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 14,51,063.

Among the fresh fatalities, 40 were males and 30 were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with 31 fatalities, followed by 20 in Chattogram, 6 in Sylhet, 4 in Rangpur, 3 each in Rajshahi and Khulna, 2 in Barishal and 1 in Mymensingh.

The first Covid-19 cases were reported in Bangladesh on March 8, 2020 while the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.
