The government can ask anyone for a bank account. Earlier, MPs, government officials and leaders of business organizations were summoned to their bank accounts. As a result, Information Minister Hasan Mahmud has questioned the importance of summoning the bank accounts of journalist leaders in the media.

The information minister made the remarks at the unveiling ceremony of the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum’s (BSRF) ‘BSRF Message’ at the Secretariat on Monday (September 20).

Asked about the summoning of bank accounts of journalist leaders, the Information Minister said the government can summon the bank accounts of anyone. MPs, government officials are summoned to bank accounts. Leaders of business associations have also been summoned before the bank account.

He said the government can ask anyone for a bank account details, it is not wrong to ask. But the question is why the issue published in the newspaper when asked for bank account details of the journalist leaders . Another question that journalists have asked is, why a bank account was sought in the name of the organization? I think there is no reason for anyone to be worried if someone is transparent.

On September 12, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) summoned the bank accounts of 11 journalist leaders, including Farida Yasmin, president of the National Press Club, and Ilias Khan, general secretary.

Angry journalist leaders protested at a press conference. They are alleging that the government has taken such a step to intimidate the journalists.

Because its members present important information of the government to the media from close to the government. Organizational teamwork will be closer and more intensive by publishing BSRF messages at regular intervals.
