Sohel Haider Chowdhury and Akter Hossain new DUJ president, secretary

Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) has elected Journalists Sohel Haider Chowdhury and Akter Hossain as its new president and general secretary respectively.

In the election held on Tuesday, Sohel bagged 724 votes while his nearest rival Sazzad Alam Khan Topu 690, and Akter got 736 votes while his main competitor Md Mehidy Hasan 642.

Election management committee chief Manzurul Ahsan Bulbul announced the results at Jatiya Press Club tonight.

The other newly elected office bearers of the DUJ faction are senior vice-president MA Kuddus,  vice-president Manik Lal Ghosh, joint secretary Khairul Alam, treasurer Ashraful Islam, organising secretary A Zihadur Rahamn, law affairs secretary SM Saif Ali, publicity and publication secretary Razu Hahim, office secretary Amanullah Aman, welfare secretary Zubayer Rahman Chowdury, sports and cultural affairs secretary Sakila Parvin and women affairs secretary Suraiya Anu.

New executive members of the committee are Mujib Masud,  Dulal Khan, Ibrahim Khalil, Khokon, Asadur Rahman, Solim Ullah Selim, Anwar Hossain, Mohiuddin Palashn and Rehena Parvin.

A total of 61 candidates are contested in Quddus Afrad-Gazi Zahirul Islam Panel, Sajjad Alam Khan Tapu-Akhtar Hossain Panel, Sohail Haider Chowdhury-Mehedi Hasan Panel. Besides, there were 10 independent candidates.in this year’s DUJ election.
