Journalists should be responsible to their profession: Speakers

Speakers at an iftar programme today said journalists should be responsible to their own profession.

They said the online newsmen should play more active role in ensuring objective journalism.

Bangladesh Online Media Association (BOMA) hosted the iftar at Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah auditorium of the Jatiya Press Club (JPC).

State Minister for Religious Affairs Md Faridul Haque Khan addressed the function as the chief guest while BSS Managing Director and Chief Editor Abul Kalam Azad addressed it as the special guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Faridul Haque Khan said all should be responsible while publishing news in online media and aware of the news whether it is positive or negative for the public.

Noting that news plays remarkable role for overall development of the country, he said, all, including journalists and public representatives, should work together for the country’s development.

Abul Kalam Azad said publishing news in online media is undoubtedly a commendable initiative. But, apart from collecting news, journalists should acquire the skills to deal with its challenges.

Azad said the information should be cross-checked after collecting it from the primary sources for the sake of publishing authentic news in the online media and it will help a journalist to ensure justice to his/her profession.

BOMA Executive President Kamal Hossain presided over the programme while Advisor of the Asian Age Selim Omrao Khan and BOMA President Shariful Islam Khan addressed the function, among others.
