Bangladesh beat West Indies by six wickets in 1st ODI
Bangladesh beat the West Indies convincingly by six wickets in the 1st ODI at Providence to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series on Sunday.
Shoriful Islam (4/34) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (3/36) turned in brilliant spells to keep the West Indies down to 149 for 9 in 41 overs.
Shamarh Brooks top-scored with 33, while Anderson Phillip (21 not out) put on a face-saving, unbroken partnership of 39 with Jayden Seales (16 not out).
When Bangladesh batted, Akeal Hosein (1/43) trapped Litton Das (1) in front cheaply before Phillip ran out Tamim Iqbal (33) to leave the visitors at 49 for 2.
Mahmudullah and Najmul Hossain Shanto (37) put on a further 49 before the latter was dismissed by debutant Gudakesh Motie, for his first wicket in ODI cricket.
However, after the loss of Afif Hossain (9), Mahmudullah (41 not out) and Nurul Hasan (20 not) took Bangladesh to the target with 55 balls to spare.

West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran gave Bangladesh credit for the win but said the pitch was not the easiest to play on.
“In hindsight they [runs] weren’t enough but it was difficult to play on that pitch. Bangladesh played well. The conditions changed from the time we batted. That said, we should’ve played well in the Powerplay overs,” said Pooran.
The 2nd ODI is at Providence on Wednesday with the third match of the series on Saturday.
