If BNP tries to blockade streets, their ways to be blocked: Obaidul Quader

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday, July 28 came down heavily on opposition BNP for its `street blockade’ programme mentioning“If BNP tries to blockade streets, their paths will also be blocked.”

BNP general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir from the party’s today’s rally in the city announced the ‘sit-in-programme’ tomorrow at the entry points of the capital city.

While addressing a mammoth ‘peace’ rally arranged by the party’s three affiliated youth organisations at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka, Obaidul Quader said, “Don’t pose threat to us. Awami League’s roots are very deep in this soil.”

“You announced that you will blockade the streets.  If you take any such programme your paths will also be blocked. Don’t threaten us,” Quader added.

Obaidul Quader said anybody tries to create anarchy and vandalism would be dealt with iron hand accordingly. Government is committed to maintain peace and stability in the country.

Awami Jubo League, Awami Swechchhasebak League and Bangladesh Chhatra League organized the rally in protest against BNP-Jamaat’s killings, conspiracy and anarchy in the name of realizing their one point demand.

Among others, AL Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, Shajahan Khan, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Bir Bikram, Qamrul Islam, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organising Secretary Mirza Azam, Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, Swechchhasebak League President Gazi Mesbaul Hossain Shachchu and Chhatra League President Saddam Hussein addressed the rally.

Obaidul Quader said BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman, a fugitive convict in different cases, is giving order from London and BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul are working accordingly in Dhaka. “We are keeping watch who are going to London and giving money to Tarique Rahman for taking nominations for the next general elections and making transaction with Tarique for their future business” he mentioned.

He said Tarique himself cannot return home, he questioned how he would give nomination to you. Raising questions over BNP’s arrangement of money for waging movement, the minister said, Tarique assured Fakhrul of supplying available fund for their so-called movement. From where Tarique gets the crores of money to wage movement.

The AL general secretary said “BNP also appointed lobbyists to write to the envoys of the United Nations and the US to act against Bangladesh. How dare they are to do such thing? They laundered crores of money in this way.”

Begum Matia Chowdhury said today the people of Bangladesh wants peace, democracy, progress of democracy as well as country’s prosperity. Noting that people want guarantee of food, shelter, clothes, education and healthcare. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s illustrious daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is ensuring those fundamental needs of the people.

Matia said Sheikh Hasina didn’t budge an inch from her pledges and the people of this soil gave their verdict in her favor in the previous polls for the implementation of those promises. The people will also give their verdict in favor of AL in the next parliamentary election too as they want to move forward, not to go back towards darkness.

Dr Abdur Razzaque said since being defeated in the 2008 general elections, BNP has been trying repeatedly to oust the government by unleashing terrorism and arson attack, but they couldn’t succeed.
