Country sees 19 deaths, highest so far this year of Dengue fever

The country today recorded the highest number of fatalities with 19 deaths from dengue fever this year 2023.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), with the new deaths, this year’s death toll from the mosquito-born disease rose to 146.

At least 1,792 dengue patients were hospitalised in the last 24 hours till this morning July 19. Among them, 870 were from outside Dhaka.

Of this year’s infected people, some 5,592 dengue patients are still undergoing treatment in different hospitals of the country.

Bangladesh saw 281 deaths while 62,382 cases were reported. 23,162 of those were from outside Dhaka in 2022.

Experts urged concerned authorities to curb the potential outbreak of the disease and to conduct extensive drives identifying clusters of Aedes mosquitoes as soon as possible.
