Atlantic city councilman Morshed assaulted

Bangladeshi Hossain Morshed, an Atlantic City councilman, was assaulted Thursday night in United States and taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Officers were called to a parking lot near the intersection of Florida and Atlantic avenues at 10:45 p.m. for a report of an assault and found Morshed, 47, the 4th ward councilman for city, according to a statement from the Atlantic City Police Department.

Morshed was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center for treatment, but it was unknown if remained in the hospital Friday.

A spokesman for the Atlantic City Police Department could not immediately be reached for comment on the assault. Morshed, who was elected in 2019, could not immediately be reached.

Anyone with additional information about the incident was urged to contact the Atlantic City Police Department Criminal Investigations Section.Morshed was issued a summons for simple assault in February 2020.
