Money changers can keep maximum Tk 50 lakh in a day

The Bangladesh Bank said that a money changer in the country can keep maximum Taka 50 lakh in their vault in a day.

The central bank took the decision apparently to check hundi as there was no regulation about how much money by a money changer could preserve per day.

As per the central bank, a money changer can stock a maximum of $25,000 or equivalent of other foreign currencies at the close of each business day.

Cash foreign currency beyond this limit will either be encashed with any bank or deposited to the foreign currency (FC) account maintained by a money changer with the bank, said a circular of the Bangladesh bank on Thursday.

The balance of that account must not exceed $50,000 or equivalent at any point of time.

Moreover, the circular said maximum stock of Bangladeshi taka must not exceed Taka 50,00,000 (Fifty lac) at any point of time. Bangladeshi currency beyond this limit shall be deposited to money changers’ current deposit account.
