The death of a cartoonist who painted a satirical picture of Muhammad (pbuh) in a road accident

Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks has been widely criticized and threatened with death for drawing satirical cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). According to the BBC, he died in a road accident.

Lars Wilkes was traveling in a civilian police car on the road near the southern Swedish town of Mercury on Sunday (October 3rd), local media reported, citing reports. At this time their car collided with a truck. Cartoonist Lars Wilkes and two fellow police officers were killed. The truck driver was injured.

Earlier in 2007, Lars Wilkes drew a satirical cartoon of Muhammad’s face. He then placed the face on the body of a dog. When it is made public, there is outrage among the Muslim Ummah around the world. Wilkes received death threats from numerous places. Due to which, the cartoonist has been living under police guard since that time.

Police did not reveal the identities of those killed in the accident on Sunday. However, Wilkes’ partner has confirmed the information in the local Dagens Knight newspaper.
