Education Minister-Deputy Minister and VC laying wreath at Sheikh Russell’s portrait

Today is the 59th birthday of Shaheed Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. According to a decision of the cabinet department, the birthday of Sheikh Russell, is being celebrated as ‘Sheikh Russell Day’.

Sheikh Russell was a student of the University Laboratory School and College under the Education and Research Institute of Dhaka University. In memory of their former student of the school, they organized a wreath-laying ceremony at the portrait of Sheikh Russell at the University Laboratory School and College with the motto ‘Sheikh Russell is a symbol of serenity, fierce and fearless’.

The program started on Tuesday around 7:30 am in the school premises. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman. Later Pro-Vice-Chancellor Education and Administration, Proctor of Dhaka University and Principals of various halls paid their respects. At 8:30 in the morning, Minister of Education paid tribute to the portrait of Sheikh Russell. Dipu Mani MP, Education Deputy Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury and various secretaries of the Ministry of Education.

Sheikh Russell was born on October 18, 1964 at Bangabandhu Bhavan No. 32, Dhanmondi, Dhaka. His educational career began at the Laboratory School. Which is now known as University Laboratory School and College. He was killed 1975.
