Amar Ekushey Book Fair extended till March 17

State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid today said the government has extended the duration of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair, which was scheduled to end tomorrow, till March 17.

“The government has taken the decision as the Covid-19 situation has improved,” he told journalists at his office in the Secretariat.

Khalid said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave the approval to extend the duration of the book fair this morning.

Member Secretary of the Book Fair Organizing Committee Jalal Ahmed said the duration of the book fair has been extended as the Prime Minister as well as the countrymen wished to conclude the fair on March 17, showing respect and love to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his birthday.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the book fair on February 15 with the theme “Birth Centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Golden Jubilee of the Country’s Independence”.

She opened the book fair on the Bangla Academy premises joining virtually from her official Ganabhaban residence here and gave an instruction to extend the fail till March 17.

The fair, a yearly event of booklovers and publishers, however, is being held on the Bangla Academy premises and its adjoining Suhrawardy Udyan in the city.
