Rehana Maryam Noor’ goes to the Oscars

‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ will represent Bangladesh at the 94th edition of the Oscars. It is sent from Bangladesh to compete in the foreign language film category. The film is directed by Abdullah Mohammad Saad.

Abdullah Al Maruf, coordinator of the Oscar Bangladesh Committee, said that a meeting of the film selection committee was held on October 19 at the initiative of the Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies. On this day, the film “Rehana Maryam Noor” was selected to represent Bangladesh in the foreign language competition category.

As every year, the Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies took the initiative to participate in the International Feature Film Competition of the Oscars. To this end, an 8-member committee was formed to select the films. The film was invited to participate in the selection process on 4 October. The last time to submit a film in this competition was until 5pm on October 14th.

The story of the film “Rehana Maryam Noor” is based on Rehana Maryam Noor, assistant professor in a private medical college. He has to work hard to keep up with his job and his family. Because he lives a complex life as a teacher, doctor, sister, daughter and mother. Bandhan starred in this role.

Abdullah Mohammed Saad’s film was selected for the Riga category at the 64th Cannes Film Festival. While it didn’t win the award, it received great praise at the festival.

In addition to Badhon, Saberi Alam, Afia Zahin Zaima, Afia Tabassum Varna, Kazi Sami Hasan, Yasir Al Haq, Jopari Louis, Farzana Bithi, Jahed Chowdhury Mithu, Khushiyara Khushbu Ani and Abhradit Chowdhury all played different roles.

The Bangladesh Oscar Committee nominated the film in the foreign language competition category of the Oscars on the condition that it be released in the country’s cinema halls in November.

The 94th Academy Awards will take place on the evening of March 26, 2022 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, Los Angeles, USA. As always, the competition is organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
