March 7 speech was actual declaration of independence: Hasan Mahmud

Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s historic March 7 speech was apparently actual declaration of independence.

“After the speech, Pakistani intelligence agency officers working in Dhaka had informed the centre that Bangabandhu declared independence,” he told a discussion marking the Historic March 7 Day at the AL’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the discussion joining it virtually from her official Ganabhaban residence here.

Dr. Hasan said before the speech, many persons gave notes to Bangabandhu suggesting what to say in the March 7 speech but Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had delivered the words in his landmark speech from his hearts.

Through the fiery speech of Bangabandhu, the unarmed Bangalee took in hand whatever they had to fight the Pakistani occupation forces and freed this soil from Pakistani subjugation, he mentioned.

The minister said some political parties including BNP didn’t observe March 7 but the history of independence of Bangalee nation cannot be written without March 7.

He said those who don’t observe March 7, they don’t have belief in the country’s independence and sovereignty.

He urged the AL leaders and workers to remain united under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina to build a Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Bangabandhu.
