BNP raises wall of revenge in country’s politics: Obaidul Quader

Lashing out BNP leaders for their ungrateful attitude towards the government, Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said BNP has raised a wall of revenge in the politics of this country.

“BNP has raised a wall of revenge in the politics of this country as BNP leaders have set an example of ungrateful attitude. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina set an example of humanity and tolerance even after killing Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family and trying to assassinate her (Sheikh Hasina) by launching a grenade attack. But, one of the leaders of BNP lied, made falsehood and spoke indecently while the senior leaders defended him,” he said.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said this in a statement today.

Lauding the attitude of the premier, he added that the example of humanity and tolerance that Bangabandhu daughter Sheikh Hasina has set in politics is unprecedented in the contemporary world.

Criticizing the BNP for their ill activities, he said people of the country know many activities of the family members Zia but the government does not want that those activates may come in the political arena by crossing the family-boundaries.

“But, now-a-days, the BNP leaders are clearly provoking to open the Pandora’s Box,” he added.

Urging the accused BNP leader to seek an unconditional apology to the nation for making derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Quader said: “If he does not seek apology then it will be considered as ‘The Statement of BNP-party.”

“In that case, AL will deal with it politically,” he continued.

The minister hoped that BNP leaders would realize their ill-political practice.

He said: “People have seen the irresponsible statement of a state minister and Sheikh Hasina did not spare him for his misbehavior.”

On the contrary, the countrymen also witnessed how BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir shamelessly supported the indecent remarks of one of his party-leaders about the incumbent premier Sheikh Hasina, he added.

The AL general secretary said the countrymen were surprise, angry and ashamed about the activities of BNP when they saw BNP leaders violated political manners.

He said that BNP nurtures vengeance, envy and hatches conspiracy and for this reason, they have no sense of showing gratitude.

“BNP has been polluting the good practice politics and the atmosphere of mutual respect-understanding since its inception,” he added.

Mentioning that BNP never showed gratitude to Awami League, he said when Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina went to console the bereaved mother Khaleda Zia after the death of her son Coco, they shut down the door that forced Sheikh Hasina to go back disrespectfully.

The countrymen also knew about the indecent remarks of BNP leader Khaleda Zia while she was invited by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for a tea at Ganabhaban, he said, adding now it is clear that the traits like rudeness and indecency are inherent for them and thus it has become their political legacy.

“BNP leaders do not have sophisticated taste and decency in their remarks and deeds, otherwise how can Mirza Fakhrul, who is considered a gentleman in politics, publicly certified such non-political indecent language of BNP leader Moazzem Hossain Alal?,” he asked.
Quader went on saying that Begum Zia stayed in a secure place in the cantonment controlled by Pakistan army during the war of liberation whereas General Zia frequently asked her to leave the cantonment.

She (Begum Zia) did not leave the safe and luxurious hospitality of the cantonment, he continued.

Quoting a column of noted journalist and writer Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury, Quader said that Ziaur Rahman would have divorced Khaleda Zia after the liberation war, but could not do so and their conjugal life (Ziaur Rahman-Khaleda Zia) was saved by the intervention of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the request of Begum Zia.

Raising question about the patriotism of Khaleda Zia, he mentioned that the then Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia sent a message of condolence at the death of Pakistan’s former Army Chief General Asif Nawaz Janjua on January 8, 1993  who directly participated in the Pakistani military’s “genocide” in 1971.

On the other hand, Lieutenant General Jagjit Singh Aurora, who signed the instrument of surrender after the defeat of occupation Pakistani forces on December 16 in 1971, died in 2005 but the then Prime Minister Begum Zia did not express any condolence, Quader added.
