Electronic gates to be inaugurated at Ctg airport today

Electronic gates (E-gates) will be inaugurated at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport today for the convenience of passengers.

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali will formally inaugurate six electronic gates at Shah Amanat International Airport on Tuesday.

Airport manager Wing Commander Taslim Ahmed informed the matter to the media on Monday.

He said that e-passport was launched in the country from 2020 instead of Machine Readable Passport (MRP). In continuation of this, the latest automatic border control system or E-Gate was launched on June 7, 2022. The E-gates will make the immigration process faster and improve the quality of services, he added.

The E-gates will be managed by immigration police and camera will be installed in each gate.

Passengers can easily pass through the E-gates as the gates will be opened automatically after submitting e-passport and the whole process will be completed within 30 seconds, said airport authorities.

E-passports have an in-built microprocessor chip containing details of the holder. The e-gates will identify an air passenger after scanning the e-passport. And the process ensures high security during the verification of travel documents, said authorities.
