Pran Gopal Dutta is going to become MP without contest in Comilla-7 constituency

Two of the three candidates contesting the Comilla-7 by-election have withdrawn their candidacies. As a result, the Awami League nominated candidate Professor Dr. Pran Gopal Dutta  is going to be elected without contest.

 On Saturday (September 18) at noon, Bangladesh National Awami Party (NAP) candidate Monirul Islam withdrew his candidature to the Regional Election Officer’s Returning Officer Dulal talukdar. Earlier, Jatiya Party nominee Lutfar Reza Khokon withdrew from the polls on September 18.

Returning Officer and Regional Election Officer Dulal Talukder said, six candidates had collected nomination papers in the Comilla-7 by-election. Of these, four candidates submitted their nomination papers on September 13, the last day for submission of nomination papers.

Of these, three are party candidates and the other is an independent. Three valid candidates were on the field for contest as the nomination of independent candidates was canceled. Now the only candidate is the Awami League nominated professor  Pran Gopal Dutta. We will send a report to the Election Commission in this regard. On September 20, the Election Commission will issue a public notice declaring Pran Gopal Dutta the uncontested winner.

The seat became vacant on the death of Former Deputy Speaker Prof.  Ali Ashraf, elected from this seat on July 30.  The Election Commission had announced the election schedule on September 2, setting October 8 as the polling day.
