Dr Pran Gopal Dutta declared the winner of Comilla-7 constituency

Ruling Awami League candidate Dr Pran Gopal Dutta has been declared the winner for the by election of Comilla-7 (Chandina) constituency.

A public notice has been issued by Cumilla Regional Election Officer Dulal Talukder confirmed the matter today.

Dulal Talukder said, September 19 was the last day for withdrawal of nomination papers. The Jatiya Party and NAP candidates withdrew their nomination papers. As a result, Gopal Dutta was the only candidate of Awami League left for the Cumilla-7 by-election.

‘In this case, his name is finalized as the sole candidate. Since he is the only candidate, so there is no provision for giving marks. In this situation, a public notice has been issued declaring Pran Gopal Dutta as the uncontested winner.

After that, the gazette will be sent to the Election Commission Secretariat for publication, the returning officer said.

The constituency was declared vacant after the death of Cumilla-7 constituency AL lawmaker and former deputy speaker Ali Ashraf on 30 July.The Election Commission had announced the election schedule on September 2, setting October 8 as the polling day.
