Bengali are a nation of heroes not thieves: Bridge Minister

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, Bengalis are not a nation of thieves, but a nation of heroes. Democracy in our country has developed to some extent. It is a slow process. There is no chance of it developing overnight.

He made the remarks while handing over lease documents of plots allotted at rehabilitation sites among the victims of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge construction project on Sunday (October 3) at noon.

Obaidul Quader said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wants fair elections. So everyone prepare for the election without any chaos.

The minister said the caretaker government system had left in 2011 following a court order. It is a matter of resolution. The high court sent the caretaker government to the museum.

Addressing the BNP, he said, “You want elections under a neutral government.” But, your leader once said, there is no one neutral except the mad and the child.

Regarding the implementation of the Padma Bridge, Obaidul Quader said, “The Padma Bridge is the golden crop of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s foresight.” Before the construction of the bridge, there was a riot in the Padma. Bangabandhu’s daughter declared, “I will build the Padma bridge with my own funds to prove that Bengalis do not steal, Bengalis are a nation of heroes.”

Under the chairmanship of Bridges Secretary Abu Bakar Siddique,Munshiganj-2 MP Sagufta Yasmin Emily, Chief Coordinator of the Padma Bridge Rail Link Project Major General SM Zahid Hossain, Padma Bridge Project Director Md. Shafiqul Islam and others also spoke.
