ICC T20 World Cup: Tigers leave for Oman today

Bangladesh team is officially going to set foot in the atmosphere of ICC T20 World Cup. The Tigers will leave the country today under the leadership of Mahmudullah Riyadh to play in the World Cup. The cricketers will board a flight to Oman at 11:15 pm. At the end of the one-day quarantine in Oman, the Bangladesh team will practice for four consecutive days. After that Mushfiqur-Liton will enter the World Cup activities.

Star cricketers- Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman, who are currently in the UAE for the ongoing IPL, will join the Bangladesh contingent later.

“The duo has taken leave until October 6 but if their teams make it to the final it will be tight for us. And in that case, we might not have them in the warm-up games as well. But that is not a problem as they are currently playing cricket,” said a Bangladesh Cricket Board official.

The official added that they would take a final decision on their joining the side after reaching Oman and there is also a chance of their leaving the IPL earlier.

The foreign coaching staff is expected to join the Bangladesh team in Oman while selector Habibul Bashar will accompany the national team in Oman while chief selector Minhajul Abedin is expected to join them during the UAE phase.

The BCB earlier made a schedule of sending their team early in order to have a preparation camp in Oman while in the process they will also complete the six-day mandatory bio-bubble, a prerequisite for the upcoming showpiece event.

Bangladesh, however, had to skip their lone practice game in Oman in order to remain protected during their bio-bubble in Muskat.

Meanwhile, several members of the national team had their last individual practice session at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday while they also underwent corona test on the same day.

A  BCB official insisted that the cricketers will have to undergo covid test after every five days since their entrance into the bio-bubble environment for the upcoming global event.

“The basic quarantine process is six days but the people who are going from a particular bio-bubble environment won’t have to quarantine which means the period of time we’ll be staying in Oman, will be considered as quarantine days,” BCB Chief Physician Debashish Chowdhury told reporters on Saturday.

“Members of the squad need to undergo a test after every five days. After completing the quarantine period and during the quarantine period they will have to go through three tests.

“According to Oman government health protocol, there is a single day of room quarantine and everyone has to be vaccinated before the departure to Oman while everyone needs to be covid negative before their boarding,” he added.

After completing their four-day practice sessions in Muscat, the Tigers will travel to the UAE on October 9 and will be in quarantine until the next day.

Bangladesh will take part in two scheduled warm-up matches against Sri Lanka and Ireland on October 12 and 14 in Abu Dhabi before they fly again to Oman on October 15 to feature in the qualifying event of the World Cup.

Bangladesh will begin their World Cup mission against Scotland on October 17 before they take on Oman and PNG respectively on October 19 and 21 in their remaining two qualifying matches.

Bangladesh will play all three matches in the first round of the World Cup in Oman. How far will Mahmudullah’s team go in the tournament? National team selector Abdur Razzak said yesterday, “The best possible team is going. Hopefully there will be a good result. I want to see the team in such a position – it would not be right to say so. There is no end to good. I would be happy to be a champion. I’m sure everyone will be happy with that. I want the Bangladesh team to play good cricket. ‘

Mushfiqur Rahim is also hopeful that winning the last three consecutive T20 series will give confidence to the team. He is hoping for something bigger if there is continuity. Mushfiqur said, ‘We have done well as a team in the last series. If we can hold on to that, we will go a long way. ‘Personally, Mushfiqur wants to give his best as a batsman.
