Govt working to nab smugglers who opened fire on law enforcers: Home Minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said the government is working to trace the drug dealers, who opened fire on law enforcers resulting in the death of an intelligence official at Tumbru frontier at Naikkhangchhari upazila, Bandarban.

“Based on intelligence agency information, members of law enforcement agencies conducted an anti-narcotic drive at Tumbru frontier at Naikkhangchhari upazila, Bandarban on Monday when an intelligence official was shot dead,” he made the remarks replying to a question of journalists at an event held at Fire Service and Civil Defence Training Complex at Mirpur here.

The minister said, “We are working to get details on how he (official) was hit by the bullet and which drug peddler opened fire on him.”

“We will let you (journalists) know the truth behind the incident after investigating the matter,” Kamal said.

He said the gunfight took place at the no-man’s land of Tumbru border in Bandarban where several thousands of Rohingyas people live.
