Bangladesh beat Saudi, Jordan

Asian Online Chess Championship

Bangladesh blanked Saudi Arabia 4-0 in the opening round before outclassing Jordan 3.5-0.5 in the second round.

Bangladesh are tied for second place alongside India and Indonesia in the men’s open category as the Asian Online Nations Cup Chess Championship, organized by Asian Chess Federation, got underway Saturday.

Bangladesh blanked Saudi Arabia 4-0 in the opening round before outclassing Jordan 3.5-0.5 in the second round.

Indonesia though then held Bangladesh to a 2-2 draw in the third round as the latter earned five points from three matches.

Philippines, Kazakhstan, Malaysia and Iran jointly top the standing with maximum six points.

Fourth, fifth and sixth round games will be held Friday, while women’s open category will begin Sunday.

A total of 38 countries are taking part in the men’s competition, while 31 nations will do battle in the women’s event.

The top eight teams from both the categories will advance to the quarter-finals.
