Google marks Pahela Boishakh

Tech giant Google commemorates the festival of Pohela Boishakh replacing its regular home page graphic with a special doodle.

A Google Doodle is a special, temporary, alteration of the logo on Google’s homepage that is intended to celebrate: holidays, events, achievements, and people. Google Doodles were introduced in 1998.

This time the doodle shows two hands decorating paper-designed masks with red, blue, green, and various other colors. Such masks are usually used during Mongol Shobhajatra, a mass procession that is brought out on the morning of Pohela Boishakh.

Pohela Boishakh or Noboborsho, which falls on the first day of the Bangla calendar, is celebrated on 14 April in Bangladesh and on 15 April in Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura and Assam by people of Bangali heritage
