Shakib joins Afridi as highest wicket taker in T20 WC

Shakib al Hasan, the star Bangladesh all-rounder, is the joint highest wicket-taker in T20 World Cup history. Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi currently shares the top slot on the list with Shakib.

During Bangladesh’s final Group B game in the T20 World Cup qualifying round against Papua New Guinea at Al Amerat Cricket Stadium in Muscat on Thursday, Shakib achieved another milestone in his illustrious international career.

After removing Hiri Hiri in the 11th over of PNG’s innings, Shakib reached the milestone.

While attempting to slog sweep, the PNG batsman received a top-edge, allowing wicket-keeper Nurul Hasan to take an easy catch.

Shakib took four wickets in his quota of four overs, giving only nine runs, and now has 39 wickets in 28 T20 World Cup appearances.

Pakistan legend Afridi took 34 T20 World Cup games to take the same number of wickets.

Shakib, who scored a fluent 37-ball 46, laced with three maximums, also ended with impressive figures of nine for four in four overs, which is also his best figure in the world event.
